Zebu Education

At maturity, Zebus measure 29 to 42 inches at the withers and weighs around  200 to 600 pounds.

Miniature zebu are thought to be the only true  miniature breed of cattle.

Miniature zebus are the only naturally existing miniature cattle. Because of their size, miniature zebus are better than larger cattle for locations where land, water, grass, and other forage is limited.

They are great for small land owners and hobby farmers they don't require a lot of land. They tolerate hot and cold climates. They are more resistant than other breeds to internal and external parasites.

These animals are slow to mature, but have very long lifespans, an average of 18 to 21 years. They are also said to have a high resistance to disease, ticks, and bloat. They are also resistant to flies, due to active sub-dermal twitches..

Their most notable characteristic is their small size; Miniature Zebus have a height range of 90 cm to 107 cm. Mature cows weigh 300 to 500 lbs, and mature bulls weigh 400 to 600 lbs. This makes them ideal for junior rodeos, FFA, and 4H activities, as they are easier for children to handle. Where some breeds might be bred to be smaller with each passing generation, or mutated into their size, the Miniature Zebu's small frame is naturally occurring.

They also have a large hump on their shoulders that increases in size with age, and a sizeable dewlap. Predominantly, they are colored gray, but can also be black, red, spotted, or white. In bulls, the neck. shoulders, and hump may also be black.

Temperament:

Miniature Zebu’s are intelligent, gentle, easy to handle, docile, highly social, have a strong herd instinct, and are happy in groups. They harmoniously share pasture space with chickens, goats, dogs, ducks, and sheep. Miniature Zebu’s are easily handled by children.

They are lovable and practical!

Hoof trimming from time to time may be necessary when they consume feed in lieu of grazing.

Miscellaneous:

Many reasons for raising Miniature Zebu’s include agricultural exceptions, pets, lawn mowers, bucking bulls, draft animals, petting zoo stars, novelty, youth showmanship, FFA projects, and family meat/milk production. Added bonuses of raising Miniature Zebu’s include the byproducts such as manure fertilizer. Typically, they have been raised for zoological gardens, breeding farms, show, producing milk and even to keep as pets.

An average Miniature Zebu cow can produce one gallon of healthy and easily digestible milk per day. Miniature Zebu’s produce milk with A2 Protein. That’s the original Beta Casin Protein, which existed before a mutation caused the appearance of A1 in European herds a few thousand years ago. It is also rich in butterfat. Over 5% butterfat.

A Miniature Zebu breeder has up to six different markets for their newborn calves: pets, beef, breeding animals, mini milkers, junior rodeo stock, and show cattle. About 70% of the Miniature Zebu sold today are being sold as pets. Many of the professional couples that are moving out of the cities and occupying those 3 to 5 acre mini ranchettes are looking for four legged lawn mowers.

You do not own Miniature Zebus, they own you.

I do not personally bond with the Calves when I sell them only my personal ones that have to be bottlefed and will be keeping. When sold the Calves are straight off their mother. I like for the new owner to establish the bond in my opinion it's less stress from being weaned and transported to thier new home. I've sold several Calves threw the years and everyone comes back  within a week or two saying The calf is  trusting them and they're really happy with how the bonding is going.
